Climate forum discusses ways to help IMPROVE WEATHER OFfiCE SERVICES
Discussions on how to work climate messaging and better delivery of meteorological services are being currently held at Tanoa Plaza in Suva between all stakeholders. The three-day stakeholder consultation workshop is for developing a national implementation plan for enhanced climate services. This first national climate outlook forum started yesterday.
It is expected that participation of stakeholders will facilitate the identification of appropriate mechanisms to improve and sustain the flow of climate information to different users in Fiji. Fiji Meteorological Services (FMS) director Ravind Kumar said the World Meteorological Organisation had recognised the importance of climate services in providing information that can save life, property and suffering.
“We are gathered for a very important purpose which is to assist in the compilation of the climate services implementation plan for FMS,” he said.
“Fiji through FMS is committed to advance and implement key pillars of the Global Framework for Climate Services at the national level and start a dialogue so that climate services and products remain relevant to a wide variety of users and sectors.
“This will assist in planning, policy formulation and better managing the risk arising from climate variability and change,” Mr Kumar said.
