- WAISEA NASOKIA

Green growth sustainability is the way forward for businesses including the tourism industry. Malolo Island Resort and Likuliku Lagoon Resort celebrated World Environment Day and World Ocean Day this week.

The event was all about appreciation, conservation and the awareness to ensure a change in people’s attitudes towards the environment. Mamanuca Environment Society conducted the exercise and the participants took part in coral planting, underwater clean up, crown of thorns starfish monitoring, beach clean-up, mangrove planting and herbal medicine walk.

“The activity was interesting and informative, I did enjoy the coral planting activity and the herbal medicine walk” said Tanya Jeavons, a visitor to Fiji.

“This year’s theme was very motivating because it challenges and excites me on finding ways to experience and cherish the vital relationship between me and the environment,” said Ahura Group Environment Manager Sialisi Rasalato.

He said they would continue the coral planting activity at least once a month.

Participants at the celebration later received a certificate of participation and were reminded to share their knowledge on the need to protect the natural resources and be an active environment agent.

The theme for the celebrations was “Connecting People to Nature” for the World Environment.
