MBABANE – The Eswatini Medical Christian University (EMCU) recently hosted its annual Sports and Fun Day at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground. This event brought together students, faculties, and staff for a day of fun and competitive athletic activities. The day featured a diverse range of events, including netball, soccer for both males and females, pool, athletics, volleyball, chess games, dancing and an eating competition. The atmosphere was vibrant, with music and refreshments adding to the excitement as the university community cheered on their peers and colleagues.

According to the Student Representative Coucil (SRC) Secretary General, Andile Lawson, the Sports Day serves as a platform for promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork and community bonding among the EMCU community. It is an eagerly anticipated event that always proves to be a highlight of the academic calendar.

In the soccer category, the quarter-finals resulted in Nursing and Pharmacy faculties qualifying for the semi-finals after winning their matches in penalty shoot-outs.

Additionally, Alumni and Computer Science also secured their spots in the semi-finals after winning their respective matches in penalties. The champion of the soccer category will take home E1 500, with the runner-up and thirdplaced team entitled to E1 000 and E500, respectively. “The Sports and Fun Day at EMCU not only provides an opportunity for the university community to engage in physical activity and friendly competition, but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the participants. It is an event that embodies the spirit of healthy competition and community bonding within the university,” Lawson said.
