MDM members’ sex escapades exposed
MBABANE – Dirty linen! The mass democratic movement (MDM) had its dirty linen hung in public when top leaders associated with Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) and Swazis First Democratic Front (SFDF) were dragged in numerous social media posts for turning the campaign for multiparty democracy into a sex expedition.
The spotlight was cast on two members of the MDM, who resigned from SWALIMO and joined the SFDF and the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), respectively. Their sexual relationship was discussed extensively on Facebook and members of the public were treated to the sauciest secrets of sex in exchange for money, adulterous affairs and buckets of insults as more leaders were cited.
In a number of posts by a user suspected to be a member of one of the political parties, the two leaders, who are known to this publication, were alleged to have engaged in a ‘nostrings-attached’ sexual relationship. The sporadic posts were spread at intervals in one of the top gossip pages known as ‘Sigungu Semgosi Without Borders’ on Facebook.
The two members once served in the leadership structures of SWALIMO before leaving the political movement to join its rivals, SFDF and PUDEMO. The two cited leaders both engaged on the posts and the male member, who left SWALIMO under a cloud and is currently linked to PUDEMO, denied the sexual engagement.
His female counterpart, however, posted a response to one of the comments and confirmed that she had sex with the cited leader, asserting the information on the original post.
She confirmed that they had a sexual relationship with the male ‘comrade’ for over a year. In the post, she stated that her relationship with the fellow leader was not a transactional relationship but a mutual courtship.
“Ewena, (name of lover) bengingamutsengiseli mine, unlike you (laughing imoji) he was my boyfriend for an entire year cabanga... ene kevele besitenta tonkhe tintfo letentiwa emjolweni (mouth licking emojis). Yekelane kuba bitter (name of a SWALIMO executive member),” read the response in sic.
STEADY RELATIONSHIP
The response could be loosely translated that she was in a steady relationship with the male comrade for a year and it was not transactional sex but they did everything that lovers do. She further alleged that the author of the post was a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SWALIMO.
The author of the post had initially challenged the female leader for publicly embarrassing other ‘comrades’ yet she also allegedly had secrets within the mass democratic movement. Unpalatable accusations, which cannot be repeated were made and insults traded between members of the MDM under the posts.
In the process of the arguments, the author of the posts then revealed the names of the leaders who engaged in sexual relations within the MDM. Names of prominent leaders within political parties were mentioned and even though some of them ignored the posts, others responded to the allegations. The male member alleged to have had sex with the SFDF leader also responded and disputed the allegations.
Though the female member had confirmed that they were in a sexual relationship, the male leader said the allegations were not true and they were aimed at tainting his ‘struggle’ credentials.
SFDF President Busi Mayisela was contacted to clarify and confirm whether her political party was aware of the allegations levelled against one of their top leaders. Mayisela confirmed that they were aware of the social media posts and the possible damage they could cause to the organisation.
“Yes the organisation is aware of the uncalled for prevailing sentiments intended to tarnish the name of SFDF. The organisation prioritises organisational goals and objectives and, therefore, it is difficult to derail SFDF from its mission, particularly on social media oblique innuendos,” she said.
Mayisela added that at SFDF, they were constantly ensuring that they portrayed themselves as a professional organisation and by all means divorced themselves from anything that would display elements of lack of professionalism within the entity.
“As a new party, we are fully aware of potential reputation damage and we have always been prepared for such. We are, however, not easily shaken, ours is to bring forth a contribution to the goals of the broader mass democratic movement and that is seeing the country free through a unified centre of power,” she added.
SWALIMO was also contacted for a comment on the matter and although they stated that they were not aware of the posts or their origin, they mentioned that they were aware of a campaign to slander their members online.
Secretary General (SG) Futhi Msibi said the two members were not part of their concerns anymore and, therefore, she was not in a position to comment on their behaviour, whether past or present.
“Even though we are not aware of any instance such as the one you referring to, but we want to make it clear that SWALIMO encourages leaders to refrain from questionable sexual relationships that may not only affect the movement but the integrity of the struggle as a whole. We are a movement formed first and foremost under very religious principles and we believe that people should behave appropriately in order to have an appropriate impact,” she said.
