MBABANE - A police officer is nursing a facial injury after he was assaulted with a piece of concrete block, while at Sidwashini in Mbabane.

The assault resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old man of the area.

Deon Charnley made his appearance at the Mbabane Magistrate­s Court, charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. It is alleged that Charnley assaulted Constable Gcina Hlatshwako with a piece of a concrete block on the right side of the face, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

When informed of his rights to legal representa­tion, Charnley informed the court that he would seek the services of an attorney.

Remanded

The Crown, therefore, applied that he be remanded in custody until May 19, 2023, pending setting of trial date. The court released him on bail fixed at E2 000 on condition he did not commit a similar offence while out on bail. He was also warned against interferin­g with the Crown witnesses. Charnley was warned to attend all remands and hearings whenever ordered to do so.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Zamokuhle Dlamini (24) of the same area appeared charged with two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Both offences occurred at Sidwashini.

In the first count, it is alleged that

Dlamini assaulted Mduduzi Vilakati with a rubber string three times behind his left cheek with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

He is also accused of assaulting Xvier Khoster with a black iron steal on his left eye, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

He informed the court that he would seek services of an attorney when informed of his rights to legal representa­tion. The Crown applied that he be remanded in custody until May 19, 2023 pending setting of trial date.

Dlamini was granted bail fixed at E1 500 on condition that he did not commit a similar offence. He was warned against interferin­g with the Crown witnesses. Dlamini was also warned to attend all remands and hearings whenever ordered to do so.
