Sir,

As a budding mental health advocate and a lover of some of the gorgeous scenery the country has to offer, I would kindly recommend that you take more walks to soak in the sun and the beautiful backdrop mother nature offers us; it works wonders for your mental space and health as well. We progress through the year after a series of challenges - socially, politically and psychologically - and it has been a real show of character, resilience and core strength that many of us have made it thus far and staunchly remain positive.

The challenges that we have undergone since last year have prepped us up, exposed us to and driven us through a lot more than we expected from a psycho-emotional standpoint; so much so we developed new ways of coping, understanding and dealing with certain situations. In the case of grief, we have lost relatives last and this year, and that alone stirred ‘new’ emotions in us which we had never felt before; we have experienced what some may call an extended isolation, where we have had to cope with very little interaction with our loved ones.

Many people, however, tend to struggle to understand the effects that the variations in experience have on us as individuals, but they are very significant and cannot be understated. The range of emotions that we may have incurred may result in alterations in the way we perceive our world; our relations with others may also tend to suffer and this may also breed in us a different sense of self and self-perception that also affects our surroundings. The truth is, while some of the results of psycho-emotional transitions may be negative, changing or becoming a new person may also bear positive fruit.

Changes in self-perception, for instance, can propel one to greater achievements of any kind, it may enable one to make better informed decisions on the relationships they choose to be involved in since they are more self-aware, and the general ability to cope, manage and handle yourself emotionally is always a plus. In taking walks, there is always some positive mental health attribute that you can pick up for future use in building your character.
