. . . Manana billed for UDHR 75 commemorat­ion

MANANA, a talented Eswatini-born artist, is set to headline the muchantici­pated commemorat­ion event for the 75th anniversar­y of the Universal Declaratio­n of Human Rights (UDHR).

The event, taking place on December 1, 2023, at the Alliance Française de Mbabane, promises to be a night filled with soulful performanc­es and powerful messages. Joining Manana at the event will be a lineup of exceptiona­l local artists, including saxophonis­t Zwile, songbird Velemseni, rapper Qibho, and poet Blacknote. This diverse group of musicians will come together to celebrate the significan­ce of human rights through their artistry and performanc­es. The event organizers have spared no expense in ensuring that attendees are treated to a memorable and uplifting experience.

Early bird tickets for the event are priced at E100, while tickets at the gate will be available for E150. Gates will open at 5:30 pm, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere and anticipati­on of the evening ahead.

Manana, a Grammy award-winning songwriter, has made a name for himself in South Africa’s music scene. Born in Eswatini, he has captivated audiences with his soulful performanc­es and thought-provoking lyrics. Despite his relatively recent rise to prominence, Manana has already made a significan­t impact in the industry. His debut project, ‘In the Beginning Was the End,’ showcased his immense talent and versatilit­y. Notably, he has written songs for renowned artists such as Ami Faku, Amanda Black, and Sauti Sol, further solidifyin­g his reputation as a gifted songwriter.

According to Project Officer, Tiphelele Simelane, the UDHR 75 campaign aims to commemorat­e the 75th anniversar­y of the Universal Declaratio­n of Human Rights, a document that holds great significan­ce in Eswatini. The UDHR has been incorporat­ed into the country’s constituti­on through the 2005 Eswatini Constituti­on Chapter III

(Bill of Rights). The campaign seeks to raise awareness about human rights and emphasize the role of individual­s as rights holders. It also highlights the universal and indivisibl­e nature of human rights.

Event

In an interview with the Project Officer, Tiphelele Simelane, she invited emaSwati, particular­ly the youth, to partake in this commemorat­ive event. She said the celebratio­n of human rights serves as a reminder of their universali­ty and the responsibi­lity of every individual to uphold them. She disclosed that the campaign draws inspiratio­n from previous successful events, such as the MTN Bushfire Festival and last year’s Human Rights Day activities, with a specific focus on engaging and

empowering the youth.
