MANANA, a talented Eswatini-born artist, is set to headline the muchanticipated commemoration event for the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The event, taking place on December 1, 2023, at the Alliance Française de Mbabane, promises to be a night filled with soulful performances and powerful messages. Joining Manana at the event will be a lineup of exceptional local artists, including saxophonist Zwile, songbird Velemseni, rapper Qibho, and poet Blacknote. This diverse group of musicians will come together to celebrate the significance of human rights through their artistry and performances. The event organizers have spared no expense in ensuring that attendees are treated to a memorable and uplifting experience.
Early bird tickets for the event are priced at E100, while tickets at the gate will be available for E150. Gates will open at 5:30 pm, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere and anticipation of the evening ahead.
Manana, a Grammy award-winning songwriter, has made a name for himself in South Africa’s music scene. Born in Eswatini, he has captivated audiences with his soulful performances and thought-provoking lyrics. Despite his relatively recent rise to prominence, Manana has already made a significant impact in the industry. His debut project, ‘In the Beginning Was the End,’ showcased his immense talent and versatility. Notably, he has written songs for renowned artists such as Ami Faku, Amanda Black, and Sauti Sol, further solidifying his reputation as a gifted songwriter.
According to Project Officer, Tiphelele Simelane, the UDHR 75 campaign aims to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that holds great significance in Eswatini. The UDHR has been incorporated into the country’s constitution through the 2005 Eswatini Constitution Chapter III
(Bill of Rights). The campaign seeks to raise awareness about human rights and emphasize the role of individuals as rights holders. It also highlights the universal and indivisible nature of human rights.
Event
In an interview with the Project Officer, Tiphelele Simelane, she invited emaSwati, particularly the youth, to partake in this commemorative event. She said the celebration of human rights serves as a reminder of their universality and the responsibility of every individual to uphold them. She disclosed that the campaign draws inspiration from previous successful events, such as the MTN Bushfire Festival and last year’s Human Rights Day activities, with a specific focus on engaging and
empowering the youth.
