Super league leaders beat Göçmenköy 5-3

K-PET Super League leaders Cihangir beat Göçmenköy 5-3 at Cihangir Stadium during the 13th week of the season last Saturday.

Goals for the winning home team were scored by Musa Şanlıer with a penalty in the 37th minute followed by another goal in the 39th, with Ali Öztürk, Sibonso Mishali and Ndue Mujeci all netting one each. Gocmenkoy scorers were Kemal Üçaner in the 73rd, Joseph Obidiaso in the 82nd and Ahmet Coşkun in the 90th minutes.

Sports commentato­rs proclaimed “the leader has sent a strong message in the most difficult match of the week in continuing their leadership.”

Meanwhile, home team Yenicami drew 1-1 against Baf Ülkü Yurdu last Saturday, with commentato­rs saying: “There were no smiling faces on either side” due to the draw.

Lefkoşa’s Çetinkaya was another team which drew 1-1, with its match against Binatlı ending a series of wins for Çetinkaya, although they had failed to garner any points in the first nine weeks of the league.

Doğan Türk Birliği (DTB) beat Merit Alsancak Yeşilova 1-0 at Girne’s 20 Temmuz Stadium last Saturday. Commentato­rs said that DTB had “done their homework to leave the Alsancak team on 20 league points.

In one of the most talkedabou­t games of the week, Hamitköy thrashed Gönyeli 5-3 following a “storming” performanc­e by John Ebuka who was declared man of the match after scoring via a penalty in the 11th minute, then in the 19th and 90+4 minutes, with team colleague

Aksel Kaptanoğlu netting the ball in the 17th and 50th minutes. Goals for the losing team were scored by Efosa Francis Ona in the 30th, Sabri Selden in the 45th and Eray Osman Halil in the 64th minutes.

Among other matches, Küçük Kaymaklı won 1-0 against Lefke following a 26th minute goal by Yusuf Özbahar and Mağusa Türk Gücü emerged victorious, beating Gençlik Gücü 3-0, whilst Türk Ocağı cast more gloom on league

A TURKISH Cypriot has won championsh­ip honours in the World Beauty, Fitness and Fashion (WBFF)-organised 2019 World Championsh­ip which was held in Atlantic City, USA, last Saturday.

A member of the TRNC Weightlift­ing and Bodybuildi­ng Federation (TRNC WBF), Kemal Özekmekci beat seven other competitor­s in the “Transforma­tion” category of the event. There was further success for the TRNC team when Sel Sarıtaş, who was one of 18 taking part in the Fitness Model category, came third to also win a podium place. TRNC WBF president Ali Dahlameroğ­lu, who accompanie­d the successful sportsmen during their visit to Atlantic City, spoke of the pride felt when they hoisted a TRNC flag as they took to the podium. He said the TRNC competitor­s were now preparing for the 2020 WBFF World Championsh­ip in the Bahamas, which they were invited to attend.

On Monday, Economy and Energy Minister Hasan Taçoy issued a statement congratula­ting both competitor­s, saying: “You are our pride. No matter how much pride we have, it is not enough.” Mr Taçoy expressed his confidence in their future success in the Bahamas. laggards Düzkaya by inflicting a 3-1 defeat.

Cihangir are in first place in the league on 30 points, Mağusa Türk Gücü are second on 29, Türk Ocağı are third on 26 and Doğan Türk Birliği are fourth on 25.
