A CELEBRATION OF NATURE’S DIVERSITY
A soothing green urban oasis, the Chubb Life Forest explores our connection to nature
Our installation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to caring for and protecting every aspect of life
Hong Kong’s premier international art fair Art Basel is set to welcome a captivating new immersive installation. Chubb Life Forest is a collaboration between global insurer Chubb Life Hong Kong, artist-architect duo Lily Zhang and Wataru Shinji, and film director Masataka Kiyono. Running from March 26 to 30, the forest is designed to take visitors on a journey through humanity’s connection to nature, while inspiring reflections on legacy. Zhang and Shinji are renowned for their boundarypushing designs that blur the lines between architecture, landscape and art. Their forest will provide a green oasis within the bustling Art Basel venue, allowing visitors to wander through soothing natural pathways and experience being enveloped by an abundance of living plants. Kiyono will complement the in-person experience by crafting an immersive documentary film capturing the essence and serenity of Hong Kong’s forests.
A BLOSSOMING LEGACY
An official partner of Art Basel Hong Kong 2024, Chubb Life enlisted the talented trio to bring the company’s “every way of life” brand philosophy to life. The installation aims to promote Chubb Life’s identity of caring for people from different backgrounds by celebrating diversity within nature. Within the forest setting, people and nature merge harmoniously, demonstrating how both uniqueness and diversity enrich individual and collective experiences. “We’re proud to be an official partner of Art Basel Hong Kong 2024, continuing our support of the local art community,” said Belinda Au, president of Chubb Life Hong Kong and head of North Asia. “As a leading global insurer, Chubb Life Hong Kong forges long-term relationships by catering to the unique needs of customers. Our installation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to caring for and protecting every aspect of life, while promoting a sense of community and sharing stories that deeply resonate with people and their legacy.” Visitors to the Chubb Life Forest will be invited to select a native plant that calls to them personally and document their reflections. After Art Basel, these chosen species will be planted in a forest redesign and enhancement project led by Zhang and Shinji at the historic Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre. This collective action aims to inspire environmental stewardship and enrich local biodiversity. The project dovetails with Chubb Life’s Legacy campaign to capture the diversity of legacies shared by visitors to Art Basel, and meaningfully archive their contributions in the years ahead. Chubb Life will also activate its booth as an interactive hub where visitors can explore and embrace a spectrum of values, ideas and beliefs. A plethora of programming is on offer. Events like canvas painting and architectural talks will aim to engage visitors physically and intellectually while networking sessions will connect industry professionals. The installation marks the first collaboration between Zhang and Shinji dedicated to ecosystems. Beyond Art Basel, the installation will be exhibited long term at the newly opened Chubb Life Art Gallery at Chubb Tower in Causeway Bay. This gallery doubles as an innovative customer service centre and a platform for celebrating creativity.
IN STEP WITH LIFE
As a global insurance leader with a strong local presence in Hong Kong since 1976, Chubb Life has taken steps to understand the diverse needs of its customers through changes in life. To support customers holistically, the insurer develops inclusive products and aims for a flexible approach, unlike the traditional model. The company’s MyLegacy Insurance Plan, for instance, empowers customers to optimise wealth distribution, while the Chubb MyLegacy Insurance Plan III is a comprehensive life insurance policy that combines long-term coverage with smart succession planning. Customers can temporarily suspend premium payments, fully or partially surrender their policy, switch policyholders, adjust future beneficiary payouts, take out loans on their plan and more. This allows customers complete control over their policy to suit evolving needs, regardless of whether they are looking for a first security product or are seasoned savers contemplating succession planning. Keeping pace with life’s changes, products like the MyLegacy Insurance Plan provide customers with security, and help them share their wealth with loved ones, and leave a legacy based on their personal choices and preferences. The Chubb Life Forest aims to put this philosophy of life diversity into artistic relief. Through the immersive, natural installation, Chubb Life and the artists illustrate how human experiences intersect with the ecosystem of life. Their vision and values around legacy have been brought to life in a thought-provoking manner that will inspire art fair visitors and resonate with Hong Kong residents for years to come.
