SoftBank, GCL Indian solar venture
SoftBank Group Corp has agreed to launch a $930 million Indian joint solar energy venture with China-based GCL System Integration Technology Co as part of its ambitious India solar investment road map.
The venture will work on photovoltaic technology, which is used in solar panels. GCL will provide technology and SoftBank will assist in obtaining land and regulatory approvals, GCL said in a filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange dated Friday.
SoftBank said in 2015 that it would invest up to $20 billion along with Foxconn Technology Co and Bharti Enterprises in solar projects in India, which has a goal of generating 100 gigawatts of power from solar by 2022.
Shanda Games invests in Kakao
China’s gaming giant Shanda Games announced on Monday that it has invested 10 billion won ($ 9.49 million) in South Korea-based gaming company Kakao Games through its South Korean subsidiary Actoz Soft.
The move reflects the Chinese company’s ambition to explore global markets, which currently represent 10 percent to 20 percent of its total income. Shanda plans to raise that figure above 50 percent in the next three to five years.
Kakao Games has more than 55 million registered users, with businesses ranging from mobile games to PC games and virtual reality games, news website sina.com reported.
BOC acquires building in London
The Bank of China (BOC) acquired a building in the City of London from UKbased insurance company Standard Life for 70.75 million pounds ($99.48 million) on Thursday, news website sohu.com reported.
The 10-story building, named 60 Gresham Street, is just a block away from BOC’s London headquarters at 1 Lothbury. It was built in 2008 and houses several companies, including credit risk consultancy 4Most Europe, investment manager Trium Capital and the Anthologist bar and restaurant.
BOC acquired 1 Lothbury, located in the center of the City of London, in a deal worth 90 million pounds in 2008.
