Parents and caregiver charged in death of 29-year-old woman
The parents and a personal support worker of a 29-year-old Windsor woman have been charged with manslaughter and accused of failing to provide the necessaries of life in connection with her death.
Windsor police responded Friday to a call for an unresponsive female at a home in the 2600 block of Meadowbrook Lane.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said officers with the major crimes unit investigated.
Police have not released information on how the woman died or what led to the charges of failing to provide the necessaries of life, which is a criminal-code charge that says there is a legal duty to provide the necessaries of life to a person “under his charge” if that person is unable, by reason of detention, age, illness, mental disorder or other cause to do so themselves.
Necessaries of life can include feeding a person, ensuring they get adequate medical attention or failing to provide them with other life essentials.
If their failure to provided those necessities results in the person's life or health being endangered, a charge can be laid.
Three individuals are alleged to have been involved and all three have been charged with manslaughter and failure to provide the necessaries of life.
Police said they are not releasing the names of the suspects to protect the identity of the deceased woman.
