Express storm back for big win on Prince Edward Island

The best offensive showing of the season by the Windsor Express Saturday helped the club snap a two-game losing skid.

Rallying from a double-digit deficit in the second quarter, the Express scored a 125-116 win over the Atlantic Division-leading Island Storm in Charlottet­own, P.E.I., in NBL of Canada action.

Chad Frazier led the Express (6-8) with 26 points and had 10 rebounds. Logan Stutz finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for Windsor and Braylon Rayson came off the bench to score 23 points against the Storm (8-6).

Maurice Jones added 16 points and 10 assists, Demontre Harris finished with 16 points and Shaquille Keith finished with 12 points as all five starters finished in double figures for Windsor, which was playing the fifth of seven straight games on the road.

LANCER BASKETBALL

The University of Windsor Lancers women’s basketball team scored a 71-60 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday, while the men’s team fell 98-91 in OUA action.

In the women’s game, captain Emily Prevost scored 30 points and added 12 rebounds for the Lancers (9-3). Eve Uwayesu had 12 points and Olivia Osamusali finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Golden Hawks (6-6).

The men’s team, which has lost four straight games, got 25 points and 10 rebounds from Mike Rocca against the Golden Hawks (48). Marcus Jones had 16 points for Windsor (4-8) with Anthony Zrvnar adding 15 points, Lucas Orlita and Damian Persaud had 11 points each and Lucas Wood finished with 10 points.

LANCER HOCKEY

The University of Windsor Lancers men’s team lost 5-4 in overtime to the Lakehead Thunderwol­ves Saturday, while the women’s team fell 3-0 to the Ryerson Rams in OUA hockey action.

In Thunder Bay, the men’s team watched Lakehead tie the game with 10 seconds left in regulation and get the winner at 2:32 of overtime.

Brennan Feasey, Ian Parker, Alex Friesen and Adam Burnett each scored for the Lancers (6-7-5), who lost 3-1 to Lakehead Friday.

SAINTS SILVER

The St. Clair Saints men’s basketball team won the silver medal at the 40th annual George Brown Invitation­al.

St. Clair rallied from a doubledigi­t deficit at the half to beat Redeemer, which is ranked No. 7 in the CCAA, by a 93-92 score in the semis as Lancer Drummonds hit the winning basket. In the final, the Saints fell 77-66 to the host team, ranked No. 12 in the CCAA.

Jermaine Lynch and Drummonds were both named to the tournament all-star team.

SAINTS VOLLEYBALL

The St. Clair Saints men’s volleyball team went 3-0 at the Mohawk Volleyball Invitation­al, which wrapped up Saturday.

St. Clair finished with a 3-0 win over Winnipeg’s Canadian Mennonite College by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-20. St. Clair also beat Georgian College, the top-ranked team in the OCAA and No. 2 in Canada, by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 26-24 after opening the tournament with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21 and 25-22) win over Durham .
