The St. Clair Saints finished first in their pool and will play in Saturday’s semifinals after splitting a pair of games on Friday at the National College Invitational Baseball Championship in Oshawa.

St. Clair dropped a 3-0 decision to the Durham Lords before rebounding for an 8-0 win over Montreal’s Ahuntsic College to finish with a 3-1 record in pool play.

Mitchell Gault took the loss against Durham with the Saints limited to just five hits with two of those coming from Curtis Cunningham.

Against Ahuntsic, Kaine Doumani allowed one hit over five innings and struck out seven to pick up the win with Jordan Pine driving in three runs.

The Saints will face Holland College from Prince Edward Island in the semifinals on Saturday with Fanshawe and Durham playing in the other semifinal.

SAINTS CROSS-COUNTRY

The St. Clair Saints have high hopes heading into Saturday’s OCAA cross-country championship, which is being hosted by Fanshawe College in London.

Saints head coach Paul Boots is hoping for a podium finish for both the men’s and women’s teams and a trip to Blainville, Que., for the national championships.

The men’s team will have three first-year runners in the field and Boots believes each can finish high enough to earn first- or second-team all-star consideration.

Sandwich high school product Tyler Jones already has a win this season at the London course. Villanova high school product Andre Tomasian and Gavin Wesley will also compete in their first conference championship. Justin Folkeringa, Nick Cull and Chase Squirre round out the team.

The women’s team will lean on third-year runner Beth Horrobin to lead the way with Hannah Cirino, Nicole DesRosiers, Aryana Cirino, Jessica Hodgkin and Sam Boussey rounding out the team.

GOLF ONTARIO

Windsor’s Shawn Sehra and Jasmine Ly along with Tilbury’s Hailey Katona have been named to Golf Ontario’s under-19 provincial team for 2018.

The 16-year-old Katona is one of six returnees to the team of 14 players. It’s the first selection for the 15-year-old Sehra and the 17-year-old Ly.

The team runs a winter program and, for the first time, the program will plot a number of strategic initiatives with Golf Canada and the national team in 2018.

SAINTS SOCCER

The St. Clair Saints advanced to the consolation final at the OCAA women’s soccer championship on Friday with a 4-2 win over the Durham Lords in Sudbury.

Goals by Cassie Nicholas and Melanie Jubenville had the Saints even with Durham at 2-2, but Cassandra Medeiros scored in the 62nd minute and Nicholas added her second goal eight minutes later to clinch the victory.

St. Clair will now face the Mohawk Mountaineers in Saturday’s consolation final.
