The days of made-in-Canada golf telecasts appear to be over.

For the first time in forever, neither of this country’s two national opens will have a Canadian- produced telecast. The RBC Canadian Open dropped its TSN/CTV coverage 10 years ago and can only be seen on CBS. Now the national women’s open — the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open — is losing its Canadian content.

When the event tees off at Vancouver Golf Club in mid-August, it will be shown only on Golf Channel. At best, if a Canadian network picks up the Golf Channel feed it could provide hourly updates highlighting the Canadian contingent.

In past years, the Canadian Women’s Open has had a Canadian telecast that has been produced in recent years by Sportsnet, CBC and, mostly recently, on TSN.

The event has always struggled to find ratings. Last year’s telecast drew a peak of only 54,000 viewers.

PITT STOP: Short-game guru Dave Stockton and his son Dave Jr. will make what has become an annual visit to Pitt Meadows Golf Club on July 16.

The Stocktons stop at Pitt Meadows to participate in the club’s men’s night en route to an annual fishing trip in Haida Gwaii and will be holding a pair of shortgame clinics for members.

Pitt Meadows head pro Neil Roberts said the public is welcome to attend the first of the two short-game clinics at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 16 on the club’s driving range.

Dave Stockton’s 10 PGA Tour wins include two PGA Championships (1970 and 1976). He also won 14 times on the Champions Tour, including the 1998 U.S. Senior Open. He was the U.S. Ryder Cup captain in 1991.

NICK WHO?: Canucks’ centre Nick Bonino, back home in Connecticut for the summer, played in Wednesday’s pro-am at this week’s PGA Tour stop, the Travelers Championship in Hartford. Bonino was at his sarcastic best when he sent out this tweet on Tuesday: “Come watch me @ TravelersChamp Pro Am tomorrow with Tim Wakefield, Ray

Allen and Ken Duke. I know, I had to Google who those guys were, too.”

CHIP SHOTS: Kudos to a whole bunch of PGA of BC pros who are raising money for ALS via golf marathons at more than 30 courses throughout the province this month ... Port Alberni’s Jackie Little successfully defended her B.C. Senior Women’s title Friday at Cowichan Golf & Country Club. She beat Alison Murdoch of Victoria by one shot. Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay won the Mid-Master title by one shot over Jessica Luciuk of Barrhead, Alta. ... Abbotsford’s Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor both missed the cut Friday at the Traveler’s Championship. So did Merritt’s Roger Sloan.
