1. A SUIT: A new suit is a must. The season’s top looks have an old- school look — think of the kind of clothes your grandfather wore ( or perhaps your greatgrandpa). The fit should be narrow and well- tailored, and your suit should be versatile enough that you can wear the jacket with jeans. Tweed is the big story for fall/ winter.

2. A MOTO JACKET: Black leather never looked so good. Tough, cool, easy to layer, essential for fall, always in style.

3. A RELAXED BLAZER: This is your basic go- everywhere piece, from work to bar to dinner to travel. Cashmere is ideal; a chunky knit is cosy and modern. Wear it layered, dress it up or dress it down, it’s your wardrobe workhorse.

4. A STATEMENT JACKET: OK, not every gent is hitting the gala- gala circuit this season, but surely you have a Christmas party to attend? A wedding? An important dinner with a certain someone? This is the piece that will take you to all the special occasions in your life. Think velvet, satin, brocade or luxe paisley, and the best fit and quality you can afford.

5. TAILORED TROUSERS: Black and grey will take you everywhere. The new cargo pants and dressy jeans will take you places you never expected.

6. A FEW REALLY GREAT SHIRTS: Think quality fabrics, meticulous tailoring, lush colours, rich patterns and a hint of whimsy. 7. GRAPHIC T- SHIRT OR

SWEATER: Got something to say? Let your clothing say it for you. Look for chunky knits with bold patterns knitted into them, or T- shirts that feature bold images or meaningful sayings. Great for casual occasions. 8. STAT get a kic fab foot chukka ampedlished lo test sho

TEMENT SHOE: You’ll ck out of the season’s twear. Try an ankle- high or urban work boot, an - up brogue, an embeloafer or the season’s hotoe, the stylish sneaker.

9. SIGNATURE ACCESSORY: It’s a season that is all about making a personal statement and there is no better way to do it than with the accessories that really express who you are. Be refined with tie bars, cufflinks and pocket squares. Be dashing in a fedora and jaunty scarf. Be daring with embellished shoes, brightly coloured leather bag and a skull T- shirt. Or be subtle with a pair of burgundy shoelaces and a designer belt.

10. OUTERWEAR: The options are endless this season, but if you are going to buy just one coat, make it a peacoat.
