Two died on same day in two separate crashes
Two people died May 5 in separate crashes in Nova Scotia.
Around 11:36 a.m., West
responded Hants RCMP officers to a two-vehicle collision on Lawrence Road in Union Corner.
Upon arrival, RCMP officers learned that a person driving a Ford F150 truck and another person on a Yamaha TW200 motorcycle were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 20-year-old Mantua man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 27-year-old Union Corner man, and a 29-year-old Wolfville man who was a passenger, were both uninjured as a result of the collision.
Lawrence Road was closed for about six hours while police investigated.
Shortly after 3 p.m., RCMP, firefighters and paramedics responded to a twovehicle crash in the 400 block of Highway 7 in Lochaber, Antigonish County.
Police say a driver in a Toyota RAV4 was travelling north and another person driving a GMC Terrain was
vehicles travelling south when the collided head-on.
The passenger of the Terrain, a 70-year-old Bickerton West woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 74-year-old Bickerton West man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.
The five occupants of the Toyota, a 31-year old man, a 25-year-old man, a 30-yearold woman and two children, all from Antigonish, suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospital by ambulance.
The highway was closed for more than eight hours while a collision reconstructionist worked at the scene.
The crashes capped off a deadly start to May.
On Saturday, May 4, a 53-year-old man died when an all-terrain vehicle crashed and rolled in South Merland.
The man was a passenger on the machine when it crashed on a dirt road parallel to Highway 16 in South Merland at about 6:15 p.m.
The driver, a 62-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Antigonish by ambulance before being airlifted to Halifax.
And an 18-year-old man died in hospital of injuries sustained when his car left Highway 289 in Middle Stewiacke and crashed at about 10 p.m. on May 1.
