Kentville library enters competition

$40,000 in funding available in competition

-

The Friends of the Kentville Library have been selected to compete for $ 40,000 in prize money in the National Trust for Canada’s This Place Matters Main Street competition.

During the process, the community group will be working to raise $5,000 to help renovate the former sanctuary of Kentville’s United Church and create a children’s area in the town’s new library.

Every dollar raised counts as a vote for toward the competition.

“We are really excited to be chosen to compete in This Place Matters,” say Kate Collins and Sarah Leslie, who are co-chairwomen of the Friends of the Kentville Library.

“Margaret Atwood helped us raise funds for the teen area and winning this would allow us to build an amazing area for younger kids.”

The plan, should the prize money be available, is to build a children’s area that would appeal to both parents and kids. It would be filled with creative and colourful shelving, with nooks for both kids and books and filled with cozy places to curl up, relax and journey into the world of reading.

“This money would provide our children’s area with a pizzazz and wow factor that will both entice and engage readers and future readers from all walks of life.”

Those who wish to support the campaign can register and vote daily until Nov. 15.
