Connections Corner Meet the Drivers
Devin O’connor of New Glasgow co- owns with his dad, Charles, and trains the sevenyear-old mare, Charlotes Style.
First horse: Devin picked up his first standardbred, Weird Albert, in 2013 and campaigned the seasoned challenger until his retirement from harness racing in Truro on Nov. 22, 2015 at 14 years of age.
Favourite horse: O’connor’s favorite horse to date has been a son of Artiscape, Sharon The Moment. According to Devin, he was a fun horse to race.
Most memorable moment: When Sharon The Moment won his last lifetime start in Truro on Dec. 31, 2017, covering the track in 2:04 flat with Robert Laffin at the helm.
Mandatory retirement for standardbreds commences when they turn 15, which Sharon The Moment did on New Year’s Day, 2018. Sharon The Moment ended his harness racing career with 44 wins and $261,880 in purse earnings in the bank. Currently the retiree is enjoying some “fun racing” at a matinee track on P.E.I.
Favourite Track: Although not having experienced many other facilities other than Truro Raceway, Devin does enjoy the racing at Red Shores Charlottetown.
Best part of harness racing: Jogging and training: preparing the horse and getting ready for “show day.”
