Motorcyclists were involved in some pretty tricky manoeuvres at the stadium parking lot on the weekend.

The Gold Wing Road Riders held their Atlantic rally in Truro, with more than 70 participants, including the Annapolis Valley Drill Team.

“The team has seven members who practice once a week, or sometimes twice before an event,” said Sheila Levy, whose husband David is a member of the drill team. “Being part of something like this has been a dream of my husband’s for a long time. He talked to some other guys in the chapter and it took off.”

Using precise moves and demonstrating excellent balance, members perform a series of routines.

The Levys, who live near Kentville, have travelled as far as California on their motorcycle, making stops to visits friends they’ve made through the shared interest. One couple they met through the Gold Wing Road Riders, Bobbie Jo and Durwood Harrison, decided to drive up from Virginia and attend the Atlantic rally this year.

“They’ve been asking us to come out so we’re here on a three-week trip,” said Bobbie Jo. “We stayed with them for 12 days and it’s fabulous here. It’s great weather.”

The Harrisons have been travelling by motorcycle for about 20 years and this is their third trip to Canada. They both have their licence, although

Durwood does the majority of the driving.

“We have a trike so if we’re in a group and someone’s ill he takes their bike and I drive our trike,” she said. “It’s very comfortable and I’ve been known to go to sleep while he’s driving.”

The rally also included seminars, scenic bike tours, bike games, a banquet and a blessing of the bikes.
