High-risk sexual offender now living in Halifax, police warn

-

Halifax Regional police are warning the public about a high-risk sexual offender who is now residing in the Halifax area.

Jamie Alan Goreham, 46, was released on statutory release from Dorchester Penitentiary for sexual assaults and other offences, Halifax Regional Police said in a news release last week.

This isn’t the first time Goreham has lived in Nova Scotia. In 2016, RCMP warned people living in Barrington that Goreham may move there after serving time in the Calgary Correction Centre for sexual assaults and other offences.

In their latest media release, the RCMP say Goreham has been assessed at a high risk to reoffend. He has criminal convictions, including sexual assault and sexual interference, dating back to 1991. His victims have included girls under the age of 14.

Goreham is to not have contact with children under the age of 18 and abstain from drinking or having alcohol. He must report to a parole officer and will be supervised in the community by the Correctional Service of Canada, a Parole Board of Canada spokesman said.

"If an offender on statutory release fails to abide by conditions imposed by the board, their release may be revoked and they could be returned to prison," the spokesman said.

Police are required under the Nova Scotia release of high-risk offender information protocol to advise citizens of Goreham’s presence in the community.
