Buffalo loses guard Ford for season

- JOHN WAWROW

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.— Buffalo Bills starting left guard Cody Ford will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, while receiver John Brown has been ruled out from playing against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Coach Sean McDermott said Friday that Ford was hurt in practice this week after the AFC East-leading Bills (7-3) returned from their bye. McDermott didn’t reveal which knee Ford injured.

The second-year player was carted off after hurting his right knee in a 26-17 loss to Kansas City on Oct. 19. He missed two games before hurting his ankle in a win over Seattle, then missed Buffalo’s last game.

Ford’s injury will lead to yet another offensive line shuffle, with Mitch Morse potentially returning to centre after missing two games, and Jon Feliciano moving to left guard. Ford opened the season starting at right guard before shifting to the left side in Week 3.

Brown, who has also been bothered by a knee issue, is sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained in a 32-30 loss at Arizona two weeks ago. McDermott did not reveal the severity of the injury or provide a timetable for Brown’s recovery. Elsewhere this weekend: Seattle, which visits Philadelphia on Monday, is beginning a stretch with three of its next four games against NFC East opponents: the Eagles, the Giants and Washington. The lone game outside the NFC East is against the Jets. Quarterback Russell Wilson has thrown at least two touchdown passes in nine of10 games and is the third quarterback in league history to have four consecutive seasons with at least 30 TD throws, joining Drew Brees and Brett Favre.

Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who missed the last game with a knee injury, is on track to start against his original team for the first time, as Carolina visits Minnesota. The Vikings drafted Bridgewater with the 32nd pick in 2014, and he started 29 games before a severe knee injury in 2016. Bridgewater is second among qualified quarterbacks in completion percentage (72.1).

San Francisco, which visits the L.A. Rams, has lost three straight games by at least 10 points for the first time since the final three games of an 0-9 start in 2017.
