Choosing year’s best project is up to you

- PAUL GOLINI JR.

New home purchasers are a sophisticated group. Knowing this, and knowing how engaged the followers of this column tend to be, I thought I’d invite you to help us with our inaugural People’s Choice Award, which will be given to a lucky winner at the Association’s 32nd annual BILD Awards later this month. The much-anticipated awards night is the association’s way of acknowledging and celebrating the best our industry has to offer and we want the public (and future residents of some of these projects) to participate in the festivities. All you have to do is visit the People’s Choice Award tab at www.bildawards.com and check out the 10 finalists before casting your vote. The nominees for this new category have been selected by an esteemed jury as finalists in the Project of the Year lowrise and highrise categories, so there are at least three trophies up for grabs! When you visit the webpage, I encourage you to look at each of the projects and all of the material submitted by the builder. Before casting your vote take notice of everything from the product design to the advertising and promotion. I also invite you to visit the various sales offices, look at floor plans and flip through magazine ads. You never know, one of the finalists could be right in your neighbourhood — or maybe you could be a future resident. The project that receives the most votes on our awards website, between April 11 and 25, will be the inaugural winner of the People’s Choice Award. It will be announced April 27.

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN

I wouldn’t leave you out, now would I? After you’ve cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award, surf on over to www.thestar.com/contests.

You’ll see the BILD contest there and you can enter to win $35,000 toward the purchase of a new home or renovation by a BILD member company by answering this question: What would a new home or renovation mean to you and your family?

BILD launched this contest with the Toronto Star in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the newspaper’s New in Homes section.

The contest is running for 35 weeks and there have been more than 1,640 entries in the first month alone! Get yours in there soon!

In the meantime, if you, or someone you know, have been thinking about buying a new home or fixing up your dream home, you can start doing some research online. Buying a new home or finding a reliable contractor to renovate your dream home can be very overwhelming, but you know you’ve got experts on hand when you’re working with a BILD builder or a Renomark renovator member.

While looking at new home project websites, check for the BILD logo and visit www.renomark.ca for a searchable database of contractors working in the GTA.
