Anawim House: A wonderful agency that is a refuge, a home, a meeting ground, and a source of hope for many of Victoria’s street community has numerous volunteer opportunit­ies available. One current need is for an administra­tive assistant to support the office manager with a variety of tasks as assigned. Volunteers must be 19 years and up. Youthspace.ca: Is looking for empathetic listeners to take the role of Crisis Chat Volunteer. Youthspace.ca is a digital crisis line that serves youth (under 30) across Canada over instant messaging and text messaging. The ideal volunteer loves to listen, has terrific communicat­ion skills and cares about mental health support and suicide prevention. Volunteers must be at least 17 years old. 1Up Single Parent Resource Centre: Are you a mature and experience­d mom who would like to offer support and guidance to a single mother? The Moms + Mentors program matches single mothers with a compatible mentor for a year of friendship and support. The moms, mentors, and their children meet for coffee, walks, and fun, and join other matches for monthly gatherings. Saanich Peninsula Hospital: Is seeking a palliative care volunteer. Palliative care unit volunteers assist on a weekly basis by providing — under the direction and guidance of clinical staff — care to patients at their end of life, and their families. (Training is provided.) B.C. Cancer Agency Victoria: Will soon be staging their annual upscale, non-traditiona­l, vaudeville-themed black-tie cocktail party and Monopoly tournament fundraiser. This popular signature event is being held on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort. Many interestin­g roles are available for volunteers that are needed to help with setup on the day of the event and also at the event during the evening. Big Brothers Big Sisters Victoria (BBBS): Is seeking volunteers to join our Bowl For Kids Sake event planning team. This is a nationwide fundraisin­g event where co-workers, friends, and family gather for a game of bowling and raise fund to support BBBS mentoring programs. Planning Team Members will assist with organizing and preparing for Victoria’s 6th Annual Bowl For Kids event — as well as encourage and support participat­ion throughout the community.
