Calcavecchia to return to Bear Mountain

-

Mark Calcavecchia, the 2005 Canadian Open and 1989 British Open champion, is the latest PGA Tour Champions star to commit to playing in the 2017 Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship.

Calcavecchia has won two tournaments in B.C. on the PGA Tour — the 1997 Greater Vancouver Open at Northview and the 2005 Canadian Open at Shaughnessy. Calcavecchia also won the 2012 Montreal Championship on PGA Tour Champions.

“I’ve always had a good time in Canada,” he said in a statement.

“I’ve enjoyed the golf courses that we’ve played, I’ve enjoyed the people, and I’ve always said I like the beer. It’s just such a great place — especially in the summer. I’ve always said, winning the 2005 Canadian Open was the second biggest win of my career. I was happy to see we had a tournament up there on Vancouver Island. I think it [Bear Mountain] is a pretty cool course.”

Calcavecchia has joined former PGA Tour regulars Fred Funk, Jay Haas, Paul Goydos, 2016 Bear Mountain defending champion Colin Montgomerie, runner-up Scott McCarron, Schwab Cup champion Bernhard Langer and Canadian Stephen Ames in having committed to the Victoria event, slated for Sept. 15-17.

Organizers have also confirmed that in honour of Canada 150, a special promotion will be available through July. The Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship will offer a 15 per cent discount on all ticket options from July 1-31. Fans can enter promo code HAPPY150 to unlock this offer at selectyourtickets.com.
