What: Pablo Cardenas Plays Jobim Where: Hermann’s Jazz Club, 753 View St. When: Friday, 8 p.m. (doors at 6) Tickets: $15 at Mirage Coffee (735 Yates St.); $20 at the door Why: You won’t do much better than a show featuring local favourite Pablo Cardenas playing the songs of the late “George Gershwin of Brazil” in the intimate Hermann’s Jazz Club. Cardenas, a gifted pianist, will be joined at the show by Rob Johnson (bass) and León Torres (percussion). A tribute not to be missed. — Mike Devlin

What: Gotta Getta Gimmick Where: Hermann’s Jazz Club, 753 View St. When: Monday, 8 p.m. Admission: $20 Why: Victoria’s Gotta Getta Gimmick has establishe­d a reputation for its fun-loving, sometimes raucous renditions of Broadway songs. This time, the company pays tribute to composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown, known for Parade and The Bridges of Madison County. The second half of the show is a piano-bar style hoedown in which one can jump the stage and join in the singing fun. — Adrian Chamberlai­n

What: Jim Munro: A Celebratio­n of Life Where: Alix Goolden Hall, Victoria Conservato­ry of Music When: Monday, 3 p.m. Why: Munro’s Books is one of Canada’s most famous bookstores. Its founder was Jim Munro, who died in November at the age of 87. A celebratio­n of his storied life will be held Monday at Alix Goolden Hall. The Munro family invites friends, customers and former staffers to join them for an afternoon of memories and music. — AC
