VINCENT, Antoinette Lena

-

Lena was born in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1917 and died in her home in Victoria on February 6, 2017. She is survived by her sons Robert (Paula), Bryan (Mary) and Tom (Mary), daughter-in-law Jacquie, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1997 by her husband Squadron Leader Harry Vincent. Lena was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid baseball player, golfer, curler and bridge player who loved animals and had a special rapport with children. Lena’s priorities throughout her life were family and friends. In her later years she supported her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many activities. She enjoyed learning new things, traveling and meeting new people from childhood to her one hundredth year. Lena was friends with all who knew her, and she stuck with them to the end. She was a fixture at her grandchildren’s hockey games and speech arts presentations and was an avid member of her bridge clubs. One would have been ill-advised to play cards with her for money. She filled the role of matriarch for the extended family in Victoria and in Manitoba and was always welcome with enthusiasm by the Officers’ Mess crowd in Winnipeg when she visited. She was a role model in so many ways for so many of us and will be sorely missed by those she has known.

A service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC at 2PM on Friday, February 17th. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Wilson Block, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC, V8R 1J8.
