Conjuring 2 director salutes Wilson’s talent

-

Director James Wan, the man behind The Conjuring 2, continues to be surprised that Patrick Wilson hasn’t risen higher in the ranks of Hollywood leading men. Wan’s done his best to help Wilson, casting him in both the Conjuring films and the first two Insidious productions.

“I had worked with Mr. Wilson many times before and I just love Patrick. He is such a great leading man that the world has not latched onto yet,” Wan said. “He’s such a great actor.”

Wan’s trying a little different tactic with The Conjuring 2. He has Wilson sing an Elvis Presley number.

You might be saying to yourself that it seems weird to have a musical number in a movie based on Britain’s most documented case of paranormal activities. It works because the movie is as much about family as it is about ghost-busting.

The song fits in the story, with the haunted family talking about the father taking all the music, including the Elvis albums, when he left. Wilson’s character uses the song to bring back a little bit of music into their lives.

As if the song wasn’t enough, there’s also a dance number. Credit for that one goes to Wilson’s co-star, Vera Farmiga, who pushed to have the Warrens, the married couple she and Wilson portray, share a dance (to the same Elvis tune) as a way of showing how much they love each other.

Wilson joked that if there is a third film, the Warrens will enter a dance competition.
