Ski Atlantic seniors ready for the slopes

- CONTRIBUTED

Ski Atlantic Seniors Club (SASC) members are preparing for the 2020/ 2021 season.

COVID-19 restrictions are expected to have some, but not severe, effect. Ski hills are expected to open in the next few weeks, although with some restrictions due to the pandemic.

Seating in ski lodges will be limited and changing into ski boots will likely be done in the car. Masks will be worn everywhere, except when skiing downhill. The hills will have volume restrictions, but senior skiers generally ski only on weekdays and will not be affected unless they want to battle the weekend crowds.

Members of the club can purchase a ski pass that is valid at all the Nova Scotia ski hills and most of the New Brunswick ski hills, as well as one in P.E.I. In addition, members are also eligible to participate in ski trips organized by the club.

The group picture was taken while on a ski trip to Mont Tremblant last season not long before the COVID pandemic closed all ski hills. Each week the club offers free lessons to members at each of the participating hills.

Planned ski trips to New England and Quebec for the coming season this year have been delayed until next year. To compensate, the club is co-ordinating local celebrations in memory of founder Kell Antoft at each hill so members can get significant discounts for trips to these celebrations. Each province’s Kell Antoft days are coordinated to create a week of skiing at the three major hills in each province. Members can visit one, two, or all three of the venues and stay at discounted accommodations, never leaving their home province.
