KINGS COUNTY TAX SALE CALL SENT OUT FOR TENDERS
Kings County council has authorized the municipal treasurer to put out a call for tenders for the 2021 property tax sale.
This will take the place of the public auction that is normally held.
Council considered alternative methods for holding the property tax sale due to potential limitations posed by COVID-19 and in interest of public safety. Under the Municipal Government Act, municipalities can hold a tax sale by public auction or a sale by public tender for the purpose of collecting overdue taxes.
At this point, public engagement has been limited to the required contact with property owners who are on the preliminary tax sale list.
Municipal staff will use social media to begin a public awareness campaign to promote the municipality’s intent to call for public tenders in February. The public tender closes at noon on March 3.
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS INCLUDE SOME NOVA SCOTIANS
The province has awarded scholarships to 20 Nova Scotia students with an interest in the energy and mining sector.
Previously named the Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship, the Nova Scotia Energy and Mines Scholarship program supports students pursuing energy and mining-related studies at post-secondary institutions in the province.
Included are eight students enrolled in university programs who will receive a renewable scholarship of $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four years).
Liam Krieger from Baddeck Academy, who is studying engineering at Acadia University, and Michelle Song from Horton High School, who is taking a bachelor of science at McMaster University, are among the recipients.
