March 10, 1928–June 7, 2024 Passed peacefully away at Kenny’s Pond Retirement on June 7, 2024, Pearce John Penney, born in Griquet in 1928. Pearce is predecease­d by his parents, Edgar and Elsie Penney; wife, Amy Penney; and sons, Wayne and David Penney. Lovingly remembered by son, Donald Penney (Kay); daughter, Renee (Maureen Varro); daughter-in-law, Janet; grandchild­ren, Jessica Maclaughli­n (Nathan), Leslie Bennett (Jarrad), Jason Penney, Justin Penney (Veronica), Sabrina Penney (Brian Oldford); great-grandchild­ren, Jorja Bennett, Alice Bennett, Avery Penney and Hannah Penney; his companion, Eileen Gronich and a wide circle of friends and family. Dad’s academic achievemen­ts included a B.A. from Mount Alison University, Sackville, NB, Master of Divinity from Pine Hill Divinity College and a Master of Science in Library Science from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. He was ordained as a United Church of Canada Minister and served the Pastoral charges of Topsail/mount Pearl and St. James United in St. John’s. In 1969 he became a Librarian and culminated as the Chief Provincial Librarian with the NL Provincial Government. Special thanks to all the staž at Kenny’s for their care and kindness. Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home 73 Commonweal­th Ave., Mount Pearl on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Topsail United Church. Interment to follow at the Topsail united Cemetery. No ¢owers by family request. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. For those unable to attend the service, it will be lived streamed.
