Hamilton holds off Pelham for win in junior B hockey

The Hamilton Kilty B’s outlasted the Pelham Panthers in a penalty-filled Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League game Monday.

Anthony Pinelli and Luke Croucher of Hamilton scored goals 47 seconds apart at the end of the first period to take a lead the Kilty B’s held over the final 40 minutes.

Liam Sodtke scored Pelham’s lone goal at 10:16 of the second period with assists from Matt Ruigrok and Thomas Young.

Noah Bollert netted an insurance marker on the power play at 10:47 of the third for Hamilton.

There was one penalty call with eight seconds to go in the first period when Bollert was called for hooking.

Referees Jay Menard and Jesse Wilmot were busy in the second and third periods. They called 10 penalties in the second period and 14 in the third period. Nine penalties in the second and third period were for roughing. Six were for slashing. Ruigrok received a five-minute slashing penalty and a game misconduct to go with it.

Pelham went 0-5 on the power play. Hamilton was 1-7. Pelham was whistled for 63 minutes on 15 penalties. Hamilton earned 28 minutes on 10 infraction­s.

Brandon McCorristo­n took the loss in the Pelham net, turning away 30 of 33 shots.

Cal Schell stopped 24 of 25 shots for Hamilton.

Hamilton is in third place with a 20-9-0-1 record for 41 points, which is good for third place. Pelham fell to 16-12-0-2 for 34 points. The Panthers are in fourth.

Hamilton is in Lockport today. Pelham hosts Welland Friday night.
