A 19-year-old man has become the second person to die on south Niagara roads in as many days, following a crash Tuesday morning in rural Port Colborne.

His identity has not been released by Niagara Regional Police.

Police, Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services and Niagara Emergency Medical Services were called to Brookfield Road, between Second and Third concessions, just after 10 a.m. for the report of a single-vehicle collision.

Police said in a news release that the man was headed southbound in a 2014 Hyundai Genesis when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree.

Another driver in the area contacted 911 following the crash.

The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.

Police blocked Brookfield Road between the two concession roads during their investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and detectives from the NRP’s collision reconstruction unit.

The traffic fatality is the second one this week in Niagara’s southern tier.

On Monday afternoon a 59-yearold Welland woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash at Canal Bank Street and Townline Road in Welland. Ontario Provincial Police have not released the woman’s name.

Earlier Tuesday, two men were sent to hospital as a result of a crash in which a car struck a hydro pole in Fort Erie.

Emergency crews were called to Thunder Bay Road shortly before 2 a.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle leaving the roadway and striking the pole.

A 19-year-old Fort Erie man was taken by paramedics to a trauma centre in Buffalo, N.Y. A 23-yearold man, also from Fort Erie, was transported to an out-of-region hospital.

Niagara Regional Police said injuries to both parties are described as serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.
