NELSON, Louise

In loving memory of our Mom - Always on our minds, Forever in our hearts, We will love you forever.

The story of Louise began on February 28, 1927 when she was born into the Verhoef family, newly immigrated from Holland. Dad - Henrik, Mom Tryntge, and big sister - Annette welcomed Louise not long after they settled in Vancouver. Louise was always proud of her Dutch heritage, decorating her home with china that represented the country of her parents' birthplace.

Louise was Vancouver born and bred. She went to school in Vancouver, and at the age of 16 she started her working career as a stenographer at the Jericho Army Base. After the War, Louise got a job at Vancouver City Hall, where she worked until she and husband Harry started a family.

Louise and Harry met in Vancouver after he had been discharged from the Navy. They were married for 57 years, living in Vancouver for most of their time together.

After Roy and Karen were born, Louise - now known as Mom - spent time at home sewing, cooking and baking the best bread ever. She was also known for her delicious pies with "to die for" crusts. She continued baking well into her 80's, making pastry and pies for every family event.

Mom returned to work when "the kids" were of school age. She worked at

Johnson Floors, running the office until her retirement in 1981.

After retirement, Mom was never idle. Mom knitted countless sweaters for family and friends - always a coveted possession if you were lucky enough to get one! She took up needlepoint, creating works of art that adorn the walls of many homes today.

Mom and Dad lived in Steveston for many years. Dad passed away in 2008. In 2016 Mom became a resident of Rosewood Manor in Richmond where she received excellent dementia care. Throughout that journey, Mom remained connected to her family. It was wonderful to see how her eyes would twinkle and a smile come to her face when daughter Karen walked into the room. It was like having Mom back with us, even if only for a few minutes.

When the Covid shutdown prevented us from seeing Mom , we entrusted the staff at Rosewood the important task of taking care of family. We thank them for looking after Mom with love and respect, and for letting her know that her children loved and cared for her. Special thanks to Leanne, Channey, Wendy, Karen and Lisa for their friendship and exceptional care.

Mom, we miss you and especially miss your great hugs!

The story of Louise came to a conclusion on May 19, 2020.
