LARSEN, William George

-

With sadness, the family of William (Bill) Larsen announces his passing on March 18, 2020 in Vancouver, B.C. Bill was born to Charles and Minnie Larsen on November 20, 1923 in Cranbrook, B.C., one of thirteen children of which he was the fourth oldest. He attended school in Cranbrook and in 1942 joined the navy. Discharged in 1945, he continued his schooling in Vancouver, attending Normal School and later summer school, receiving his Bachelor of Education. He was a well-respected teacher and taught in Yahk, Cranbrook, Prince Rupert, ending his career in North Vancouver including Capilano, Canyon Heights and Mt Royal. During this time, he spent a year in Scotland on an exchange program. Bill retired at the age of 58 and spent his remaining years in Vancouver. Bill’s family and friends remember him as a generous, gentle and humorous man, a wonderful storyteller and enjoyed nothing more than his special pranks. He had a sense of history and was the family historian and in later years Bill’s life was touched by the church family of Central Presbyterian. Last November he celebrated his 96th birthday and quipped "I didn’t think I would live this long." Loved by all and will be greatly missed .... surviving Bill are sisters Louise, Phyllis, Bernice, and brother Don, numerous nieces and nephews who adored him: "AWAE HAME UNCLE BILL." The family would like to thank all those who supported and looked after Bill in his later years. Your kindness will always be remembered. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Central Presbyterian Church in Vancouver. If you should wish to remember Bill, donations can be made to B.C. Children’s Hospital or the Red Cross as these were two of his many charities.
