Veteran Rider knows there’s more work to do

-

Tearrius George’s celebration after the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ most-recent win was muted compared to those of some of his teammates.

“We had some funny stories and some laughs in the locker-room with some of the guys,” George recalled Wednesday, three days after Saskatchewan’s 33-21 CFL victory over the visiting Montreal Alouettes.

“Other than that, I just went home and went to sleep.”

The atmosphere in the Roughriders’ locker-room at Mosaic Stadium was upbeat following the team’s second victory of the season. Music was blasting and some of the players were singing along while others took celebratory selfies.

George, a defensive tackle in his eighth CFL season, said his teammates had every right to celebrate getting a victory after what they have been through so far in 2015.

That said, he also sounded a cautionary note.

“You’ve got to let those younger guys and people enjoy that (victory). You’ve got to understand what type of season it’s been.

“But at the same time (the players have to) stay focused and ready for what’s to come and what’s at hand.”

The Roughriders are to face the B.C. Lions Saturday in Vancouver. A loss would put a significant dent in Saskatchewan’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

Roughriders receiver Rob Bagg marked his 100th CFL game Sunday by scoring the game’s opening touchdown — a 38-yard connection with quarterback Kevin Glenn.

Could Bagg have scripted the milestone game any better?

“It was just good for the team,” responded Bagg, who scored one play after Macho Harris made his first of three interceptions and returned it 26 yards.

“The defence comes out there and gets a huge stop with the interception and puts us in great field position. We missed a couple of opportunities after that, but it was good to score first and try to ride that wave out.”

The major, Bagg’s sixth of the 2015 season, established a career high. He had five touchdowns in 2009.

Slotback Chris Getzlaf, middle linebacker Jake Doughty and offensive tackle Levy Adcock are eligible to come off the six-game injured list. As of Wednesday, their status for the game in Vancouver was undetermined.
