A SENSE OF STYLE
SORRENTO DISPLAY SUITES SHOWCASE INSPIRED DESIGN
The individual style of interior designers Louise Noon and Rene Chang are on full display in the show suites at Sorrento, Pinnacle International’s Capstan Village community in Richmond. While the designers’ approaches differ, it’s the buyer who wins in the end, with the opportunity to be inspired by the work of two diverse talents.
Louise Noon of False Creek Design Group, who designed the one-bedroom and one-bedroom-and-den display homes, installed a light fixture in a dining room that would become the star of the proverbial show: it’s an eye-catching centrepiece that adds a sculptural feel and draws attention to the high ceiling.
“The fixture is created from strips of wood veneer, which unfold in the air,” Noon says.
Noon’s vision stretches beyond the two dimensional when she considers furnishings as art pieces — that’s clear in everything from that standout light fixture in the dining space to the bedroom’s plush tufted headboard.
“(We brought the same ideas) to the bedroom area, where we wanted a three-dimensional sculptural quality to the headboard to illustrate that more than just a flat headboard could be accommodated.”
Chang, who decorated the more traditional three-bedroom suite, focused on a comfortable home for slightly larger families and couples. Like Noon, she went all out for a vibe of luxury and comfort.
“Comfort was the idea behind the design concept, but we also embraced the warmth of a home,” she says.
“The same concept was followed through in (Noon’s) master bedroom with ambient lighting for relaxing, a neutral colour wallpaper with pattern for warmth and satin bedding and mirrored furniture for a luxurious feel.”
Visitors to the display suites will immediately notice both designers’ prominent pairing of light and mirrors. They’re used in every room and act as a catalyst of sorts, transforming the room’s ambience.
In a dining area, a tall mirror reflects the light and emphasizes ceiling height; a bedroom vignette shows the dramatic effect that bedside lamps set against a mirrored wall can make. Noon’s placement of lamps against the wallpaper lends even more warmth and coziness.
“The key to creating a warm and relaxing environment is ambient lighting, and then create accents of luxury with bedside lamps and embellished toss pillows,” Chang says.
