Dr. Frances Jang, the dermatologist at Skinworks, knows exactly what a good skin care regime can do for people.

Skinworks is a well-established Vancouver based cosmetic clinic operated by Dr. Frances Jang, dermatologist and Dr. Nick Carr, plastic surgeon. Skinworks offers full spectrum cosmetic care ranging from skin care, Botox, fillers, and lasers, in addition to a fully accredited private operating room for plastic surgery. As each specialist has over 25 years of experience, clients can be confident that they are not only receiving the most up-to-date advice, but care that is tempered with experience as to what really works for safe, reliable outcomes.

Whether you’ve got tired looking eyes, sun-damaged skin, or want preventive care to ease the effects of aging, Skinworks can help.

Of course, people of all ages should take care of their skin, but Dr. Jang said that people should really start thinking about prevention between the ages of 20 and 25. That way they can maintain healthy skin and hopefully avoid, or minimize issues later on.

“It makes people look healthier and feel better about themselves, resulting in more self-confidence” Jang said.

“I am continuously sourcing reliable medical-grade skin care products as they evolve and want to ensure that our skin care makes a visible difference for our patients,” Jang says, adding that it can take four months or more for people to see the improvements.

What’s the secret to good skin care? Jang said there are five essential steps:

The No. 1 thing people need to do is to apply sunscreen, with an SPF (sun protection factor) greater than 30 every day, regardless of what activities you’re doing,” Jang said. “It will help prevent wrinkles, sun damage and skin cancer.”

Secondly, people should exfoliate and that can be done mechanically with grains as well as Clarisonic-like devices, or with enzymes that break down the bonds between cells effecting a chemo-exfoliation (sometimes preferred on sensitive skin types).

Thirdly, people should use retinols, which are derived from vitamin A and help boost collagen levels that keep skin firm and healthy.

Fourthly, Jang recommends the use of anti-oxidants with vitamins C and E to enhance the effects of SPF and neutralize damage from the sun, pollution and stress.

Finally, people with sensitive skin in particular, can benefit from using peptides; they’re molecular links of amino acids that stimulate the collagen protein.

Everyone’s skin deteriorates with age but also with exposure to sun and various environmental stressors such as pollution and smoking. These 5 basic skin care ingredients can however help to keep skin looking optimally healthy no matter a client’s age.

“Skincare has really changed ….it’s all about making skin look optimally healthy,” Jang said, adding that there are lots of options available.

Whether you are 25 or 85 it’s always the right time to start thinking about your skin’s health!
