New ReStore near Lakefield celebrates grand opening on Wednesday
Here’s the latest from Peterborough’s Northcrest Ward
The grand opening of Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region’s newest ReStore takes place Wednesday, July 24 at 10 a.m. The new store is located at 3001 Lakefield Rd. at the former Overstock Liquidation location at the junction of Lakefield and Buckhorn roads. The opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, music and food and, of course, a chance to explore and shop at the new ReStore.
The newest location joins the Peterborough North ReStore, at 300 Milroy Dr., to help Habitat for Humanity continue its mission of supporting local families and individuals through affordable home ownership. It also helps expand the ReStore’s reach across the region. The Braidwood Avenue ReStore closed earlier in the summer. A third store is located in Lindsay at 55 Angeline St. N.
Habitat ReStores are non-profit home improvement and building supply stores that accept and resell quality new and gently used building materials, furniture, appliances, and home decor items. Each of the ReStores has a distinctive inventory of items, which changes daily as new items are donated by residents and businesses. You can expect to find items such as furniture, home decor, media, appliances, tools, kitchen cabinets, building materials, and hardware.
Following the grand opening, the Lakefield ReStore will be open during its regular hours, are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.
The new ReStore will begin accepting donations July 24 during regular opening hours. Please note that all donations must be in good condition, free of stains, rips, or tears, and from a smoke-free home. For a complete detailed list of accepted items visit habitatpeterborough.ca/restores.
If you are unable to bring your donated items to the ReStore, you can arrange a free pickup at your business, home, or office. Family estates can also be picked up. To request a pickup, contact the ReStore procurement department by calling 705-874-3458 or emailingtruck@habitatpkr.ca. Include your name and address and photos of the items you wish to donate.
Shopping at a Habitat ReStore is not only a socially conscious decision, as funds generated are used to fund local Habitat for Humanity home-building projects in our community, but it’s also an environmentally conscious decision, as you are purchasing items that might have otherwise ended up in a landfill.
