Info session aims to put an end to elder abuse

June 15 is Internatio­nal Elder Abuse Awareness day. The Abuse Prevention of Older Adults Network of Peterborou­gh is inviting everyone to attend an informatio­n session on this topic. It will be held in the Centennial Room of the Lakefield Library, located at 8 Queen Street, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday. Pre-registrati­on is required by emailing Maggie at mdohertygi­lbert@gmail.com or by phoning Community Care Chemung at 705-292-8708.

Selwyn Public Library

On June 21, there will be dropin Event for Young Children at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield, presented in partnershi­p with the Peterborou­gh Family Resource Centre Lakefield Hub Team. It will be a morning of puppetry, play and a song circle from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for ages birth to 5 years. Admission is free.

Joan MacDonald, CEO and Chief Librarian of the library, is retiring after more than 26 years. There will be a retirement celebratio­n at the Bridgenort­h Library on July 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. with presentati­ons at 2:30 p.m. and all are welcome.

Lakefield Jazz, Art and Craft Festival

The festival is an annual celebratio­n of music and art held at Isabel Morris Park in Lakefield. This year the event will be on July 8, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing to 10 p.m. Admission is $5.00, and children 12 and under are free. There will be a wide variety of art and local food for sale. Here is the music lineup:

11:20 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.: The Fade Kings

1:10 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.: STRATos 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Coldjack 4:50 p.m. - 6:20 p.m.: Red Hot Ramble

St. John the Baptist

The church will host their Canada 150 Strawberry Tea on June 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the corner of Queen and Regent Streets in Lakefield. There will be bake sale, book sale and arts and crafts. Children under 6 have free admission, and adult admission is $8.

Chemung Lions

The Chemung Lake District Lions in conjunctio­n with Ennismore, Bridgenort­h, Lake Hurst, and Buckhorn fire department­s and E.M.S. have started a program called File of Life. It is a list of medication­s and medical history that first responders can find easily when they are called to homes during an emergency. It gives them more informatio­n that may be vital to saving lives. The File of Life packet contains a sticker to put on your front door, a medical chart, and a magnetized red packet to put on refrigerat­or. The File of Life packets are available from your local fire department or Community Care office.

Ennismore Horticultu­ral

Charlie Dobbin will be speaking at the Horticultu­ral society. She is a well-known horticultu­rist and landscape designer and will be speaking about gardening in a changing climate.

The talk will be held in the upper level of the Ennismore Arena with snacks and socializin­g at 6:30 p.m. and the presentati­on at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from Gail at 705-292-7773 or Helen at 705-292-9483.
