Info session aims to put an end to elder abuse
June 15 is International Elder Abuse Awareness day. The Abuse Prevention of Older Adults Network of Peterborough is inviting everyone to attend an information session on this topic. It will be held in the Centennial Room of the Lakefield Library, located at 8 Queen Street, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday. Selwyn Public Library
On June 21, there will be dropin Event for Young Children at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield, presented in partnership with the Peterborough Family Resource Centre Lakefield Hub Team. It will be a morning of puppetry, play and a song circle from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for ages birth to 5 years. Admission is free.
Joan MacDonald, CEO and Chief Librarian of the library, is retiring after more than 26 years. There will be a retirement celebration at the Bridgenorth Library on July 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. with presentations at 2:30 p.m. and all are welcome.
Lakefield Jazz, Art and Craft Festival
The festival is an annual celebration of music and art held at Isabel Morris Park in Lakefield. This year the event will be on July 8, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing to 10 p.m. Admission is $5.00, and children 12 and under are free. There will be a wide variety of art and local food for sale. Here is the music lineup:

St. John the Baptist
The church will host their Canada 150 Strawberry Tea on June 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the corner of Queen and Regent Streets in Lakefield. There will be bake sale, book sale and arts and crafts. Children under 6 have free admission, and adult admission is $8.
Chemung Lions
The Chemung Lake District Lions in conjunction with Ennismore, Bridgenorth, Lake Hurst, and Buckhorn fire departments and E.M.S. have started a program called File of Life. It is a list of medications and medical history that first responders can find easily when they are called to homes during an emergency. It gives them more information that may be vital to saving lives. The File of Life packet contains a sticker to put on your front door, a medical chart, and a magnetized red packet to put on refrigerator. The File of Life packets are available from your local fire department or Community Care office.
Ennismore Horticultural
Charlie Dobbin will be speaking at the Horticultural society. She is a well-known horticulturist and landscape designer and will be speaking about gardening in a changing climate.
The talk will be held in the upper level of the Ennismore Arena with snacks and socializing at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from Gail at 705-292-7773 or Helen at 705-292-9483.
