The largest horror convention in Canada returns to Niagara Falls later this month.

Frightmare in the Falls will be held at Niagara Falls Convention Centre on Oct. 28 and 29.

“From recent remakes of horror movies like ‘Halloween’ and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ that are setting box office records, to haunted theme parks and new hit shows like ‘Stranger Things,’ the horror genre has never experienced such an explosive growth,” said Chris Dabrowski, event co-founder.

The two-day convention is the sister show of Niagara Falls Comic Con and typically attracts more than 10,000 horror fans each year.

Organizers anticipate this month’s show will be well attended as the federal government lifted all COVID-19 border measures in September.

“The only horror con that can compare to the size of Frightmare in the Falls is more than 400 miles away in New Jersey,” Dabrowski said, referring to the New Jersey Horror Con and Film Festival. “There are tens of thousands of American citizens looking to get their horror fix who will also be happy restrictions have been lifted.”

This month’s convention will feature about 7,000 square metres of exhibitors, artists, props, autographs, attractions and Q&A seminars.

“It’s safe to say from ‘Halloween’ to ‘Friday the 13th,’ ‘Trick or Treat’ to ‘Monster Squad,’ if there’s a horror movie you’ve watched in the past 50 years it will be celebrated in some capacity at Frightmare in the Falls,” Dabrowski said.

More than 25 celebrity guests will be in attendance, including Bill Moseley (“Devil’s Rejects,” “House of 1000 Corpses”), Tony Moran (“Halloween”) and a “Friday the 13th” reunion featuring Harry Manfredini, Amy Steele and Adrienne King.

The convention runs 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 29. Tickets are available at the door and at frightmareinthefalls.com.
