27-storey building in Old Lakeshore Road precinct topic of Burlington community meeting

- CRAIG CAMPBELL REPORTER

A proposal for a 27-storey, 276-unit residential building within Burlington’s Old Lakeshore Road precinct will be presented in a pre-application community meeting on Monday.

Acamar Dwelling Corp. of Vaughan — owner of 2072 Lakeshore Rd. — has not yet submitted an application for the early development vision, but city staff say the current proposal would require zoning bylaw and official plan amendment applications.

The property’s current zoning permits a maximum height of 10 storeys and 31.5 metres, and requires a minimum of 345 underground parking spaces, with 1.25 spaces for each unit. The Lakeshore Road corner site, bounded to the west by Pearl Street and Old Lakeshore Road to the south, is located within the Old Lakeshore Road precinct.

The City of Burlington’s Old Lakeshore Road precinct urban design guidelines recommend two development options for 2072 Lakeshore — a maximum 10 storeybuilding, or a maximum 15-storey building. Both options include a building base, or podium, of two storeys.

City planning staff did not respond to a request for comment on how the design guidelines might impact the proposal. Acamar Dwelling Corp. purchased the property in March 2023 for $9.5 million.

The hybrid pre-application community meeting, which can be attended in-person or virtually, is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Monday, at the Art Gallery of Burlington’s Shoreline and Rotary Room (1333 Lakeshore Rd.).
