THE RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS

-

“We cannot generate economic growth and well-being for a few and then expect that the large majorities that are excluded will watch silently and patiently.” This was a quotation from Carlos Mesa in 2005 when he was the president of Bolivia.

P.E.I.’s auto licence fees will be reinstated in 2020 and registration fees will be increased and the funds will be used to increase infrastructure for walkers and bikers.

A quotation used to justify economic growth and well being for the few is: “a rising tide lifts all boats.” This is a very good quotation to show the truth of president Mesa’s 2005 quotation.

The few in P.E.I. appear to be doing well, based on the increased purchase of new vehicles ratio of trucks and SUVs in proportion to cars rising dramatically in 2019. We must keep in mind that those who do not own a vehicle are part of the large majority and the rising tide might lift those who are fortunate to own one, but those who are fighting to keep their heads above water are drowning.

And, we who own vehicles should gladly pay our fees and take comfort in the public facilities being provided for those who may need them when the tide goes back out. A final quote: “the life you save might be your own.” Thank you Premier King for this legislation and for your interview with Trudeau, my source from the Ontario 905 has taken notice of your wisdom and fairness.

So much for my attempt to be funny in 2019 maybe I'll do better in 2020.
