P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra: The Gathering Storm will be presented Oct. 20, 2:30 p.m., at Zion Presbyteri­an Church in Charlottet­own. The P.E.I. Symphony’s season opener features Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 4 and Maurice Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite. Also, Canadian composer John Estacio’s new Trumpet Concerto (co-commission­ed by the PEISO) will be performed by Montreal trumpet virtuoso, Paul Merkelo. Tickets are available through the Confederat­ion Centre of the Arts box office.

Central Queens United Church, Hunter River, hosts a return performanc­e by Kirk Neville (vocalist) and Bonnie LaFrance (pianist) on Oct. 20, 7 p.m. The concert title is “My Island Too”, featuring many Cape Breton and other Maritime favourite songs. FUNDRAISER­S

The Haunted House will take place at UPEI in the Steel Recital Hall on Oct. 18-19, 7-11 p.m. The cost is $8 per person and $5 for students. Guests can also bring non-perishable food items for $1 off admission price. There will be a bake sale at the door. This haunted house event is the music society’s largest fundraiser with proceeds going towards student scholarshi­ps. There will be approximat­ely 50 “scarers” on hand.
