Another $1-million ticket sold in Summerside

- BY COLIN MACLEAN

It happened again. Another Atlantic 49 draw has resulted in a $1-million prize going to someone who bought a lottery ticket in Summerside.

This is the third million-dollar win in the city, from the same kind of ticket, since November.

The latest winner was chosen during Tuesday night’s draw.

The winning ticket matched all six numbers. They were: 03; 15; 18; 23; 25 and 42, though it did not have the bonus number of 07.

There is no word yet on who the winner is. Atlantic Lottery Corporation typically arranges an official announcement and news conference that is convenient for the winning ticketholder.

In the case of Shelly Campbell of Tyne Valley, who won $1 million on the Nov. 25, 2017, Atlantic 49 draw, her win was not announced until Jan. 3, 2018.

Just before Campbell claimed her prize, Erik Gerlund of Bedeque also won $1 million on Atlantic 49, this time on Jan. 1. He was announced as a winner on Jan. 15.

Both Gerlund and Campbell bought their tickets in Summerside.

At Gerlund’s announcement, representatives from Atlantic Lottery Corporation noted how rare it was to have two big prize winners in the same community happen so closely together.

Having three happen is truly remarkable, they added Thursday.

“While multiple wins in one area or province in a relatively short period of time is improbable, it’s certainly not impossible.”
