SEASON ENDS
The featured guest artist is Canadian violinist Marc Djokic
The P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the season will take place April 23 with guest soloist Marc Djokic.
The Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra (PEISO) performs its final concert of the season Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Zion Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown with “Mozart 35 and Marc Djokic”
The concert will feature Mozart’s Symphony no. 35 in D Major (the “Haffner”), as well as “Voyageur”, a composition by Canadian composer Andrew Staniland. The featured guest artist in this concert is Canadian violinist Marc Djokic, who will be performing Sibelius’ Concerto for Violin.
A Juno-nominated Canadian composer, Staniland has one of Canada’s most promising and innovative musical voices. Originally commissioned for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, his composition titled “Voyageur” takes its inspiration from the Robert Twigger book of the same name.
A native of Halifax, Djokic is known for his powerful and virtuosic performances. On performing the technically strenuous and exhilarating work by Jean Sibelius, Djokic says, “Sibelius is probably my favorite composer and I look forward to sharing his violin concerto with the P.E.I. audience.
Djokic will also appear in a pre-concert talk at Zion Church about an hour before the performance, where he will discuss the concerto and share with the audience his thoughts about Sibelius.
Individual concert tickets are at the door of Zion Church or may be purchased in advance through the Confederation Centre box office for $40 and $15 for students. Visit https://boxoffice.confederationcentre.com or call 1-800-565-0278.
