Team cites ‘ serious violation of team policy’

Nick Evans’ time with the Island Storm is over.

The National Basketball League of Canada team announced Friday it had released the centre for what it called “a serious violation of team policy.”

No details of the incident were made public.

Evans is a six- foot- 11 centre in his second season with the Storm.

Head coach Joe Salerno said he holds his players to a certain accountability when they sign with the Storm.

“We value the character of all our players, and hold them to high standards. We take our team policies and player conduct seriously, and expect our players to abide by these while playing for our organization,” he said. “We appreciate the time and effort Nick has put in for the Storm, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Evans did not dress for the team’s first pre- season game due to what the team said was a “serious violation of team policy.”

The team announced Friday it activated centre Steve Tchiengang. The six- footnine, 250 pound Vanderbilt grad was drafted in the fifth round of the NBA D- League, and played professionally in Qatar’s first division last season.

The Storm looks to rebound from their first loss of the season when they travel to Saint John, N. B., on Sunday to face the Mill Rats. Game time at Harbour Station is 4 p. m.

The Storm is 2- 1 while the Mill Rats are 1- 1 heading into a game tonight with the Moncton Miracles.

The two teams are among the stingiest in the nine- team circuit with Saint John ( 92.5 points per game allowed) second and the Storm ( 93.67) third.

Antonio Ballard leads the Storm in scoring at 22 a game while Anthony Anderson is the Mill Rats top scorer at 19.5.

The Storm’s next home game is Thursday when the Mill Rats are back in town for a 7 p. m. game.
