WorldHost training program launched in Charlottetown

-

The Tourism Industry Association has announced the launch of WorldHost, a training program that focuses on the skills and techniques required to provide exceptional customer service and hospitality.

The objectives of the WorldHost workshop are to provide participants with an understanding of the importance of excellent customer service skills, help participants communicate with customers more effectively and efficiently, allow participants to demonstrate their attentiveness to customer needs and provide participants with an understanding of the value and knowledge of tourism to P. E. I. and their community. As well, in anticipation of the 150th anniversary of the Fathers of Confederation meeting on Prince Edward Island, these WorldHost workshops will feature a P. E. I. 2014 component.

Delivered by certified trainers, WorldHost was developed for volunteers and staff in preparation of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. It builds on the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island’s successful SuperHost program, which since 1995 has seen more than 8,000 Islanders participate.

The program kicked off at the Charlottetown Airport, where all of the front- line staff took part.

“The Charlottetown Airport Authority is committed to delivering an exceptional small airport experience for our customers and so we are extremely pleased that TIAPEI has chosen our organization as its first partner for the WorldHost program,” said Doug Newson, CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority

“Our dedicated front- line staff from the Corps of Commissionaires and Yellow Cab P. E. I. have both participated in the course. We are also thrilled that there is a

TIAPEI was pleased to introduce the WorldHost course at the airport, as they are the first point of contact with visitors. TIAPEI looks forward to booking WorldHost with tourism operators across the province. Executive director of TIAPEI Don Cudmore feels that the program will allow front- line staff of the tourism industry on the Island to build on the hospitality that Islanders are known for.

“TIAPEI is pleased to bring this internationally recognized program in anticipation for 2014, which promises to be a busy year for the tourism industry. World- Host builds on the Island’s reputation of hospitality, and we would like to see as many front- line staff complete this program as possible.”

The one- day WorldHost course will be offered at a reduced rate of $ 20 ( plus HST) per participant until the end of 2014. For more information or to book a session, please contact TIAPEI at 566- 5008 or at worldhost@ tiapei. pe. ca.
