Five- goal second period sinks Rocket

Matthew Bursey is snake- bitten.

The P. E. I. Rocket right- winger had two glorious scoring chances on the same shift in Saturday’s 6- 3 loss to the Rouyn- Noranda Huskies.

“It’s frustrating. I can’t seem to buy a goal right now,” the 18- yearold Saint John, N. B. native said after the loss. “It just seems everything is bouncing off my stick or bouncing the other way.”

With the Rocket leading 2- 1 Saturday in front of 1,500 fans at the Charlottetown Civic Centre, Huskies goaltender Robin Gusse came out to his left to play the puck. He gave it away to Bursey, who fired it on net but it, somehow, stayed out.

The winger was also the recipient of a nice pass from Erik Robichaud on a two- on- one but his shot found iron. The Huskies came back down and Denis Kamaev scored on Maxime Lagacé to tie the game at 12: 37.

“It’s breaks like that that kill ya,” Bursey said, “and that one ended up coming back and biting us.”

The Huskies feed off the tying goal and ended up tallying three goals in the final four minutes to take a commanding 5- 2 lead into the second intermission. They

outshot the Rocket 19- 6 in the middle stanza. Bursey, who had another good chance in the third period, said it’s tough not being able to bury the opportunities.

“It’s really frustrating when you know you could put one in and it would really give your team a boost,” Bursey said.

He knows the key is putting the misses behind him, but acknowledged he didn’t Saturday night.

“It was in my head after I missed that first one,” he said. “It’s tough out there … and it’s not easy just to put that behind ya.”

It was Lagacé’s first game since Sunday, Oct. 7 when he was pulled in Sherbrooke at the end of the Jonathan Delorme, Justin Guenette, Redgie Bois, Mathieu Brisebois and Denis Kamaev.

three- game Quebec road trip.

“Obviously, there’s goals I would like to see back and maybe help the team win the game,” he said after making 34 saves on 40 shots. “It’s a hard sequence for me right now and I want to get back on track.”
