Busy fall season for P. E. I. Home Economics Association
Older adults are invited to a free presentation today, titled Seniors Cents and Sensibility: Frauds, Scams & Being Money- Wise. It is being put on by the P. E. I. Home Economics Association.
Joyce McCardle, who is with the Seniors Safety Program, will speak about financial security and safety at the Star of the Sea Seniors’ Club in North Rustico, across from Stella Maris Church, beginning at 1: 30 p. m. and followed by refreshments. This afternoon event, which is focused on preventing financial abuse, is funded by the P. E. I. Seniors’ Secretariat.
For those still in university, the P. E. I. Home Economics Association invites applications for the Doris M. Anderson Senior Award to be received at peihea@hotmail.com by Oct. 15. This $ 500 award goes to a graduate of a P. E. I. high school who is entering the senior year of an applied human sciences/ home economics/ family sciences/ nutrition / consumer science / human ecology or related program at an accredited Maritime university. Students can get more information at their universities or through PEIHEA. org.
Home economists and similar professionals, as well as students, are invited to the PEIHEA semiannual general meeting to be held Oct. 17, at the Maplethorpe Café in Bedeque. Guest speaker Teri McComber, RD, a UPEI MSc student will discuss the S. N. A. P. program, a study on changes since the implementation of new school nutrition policies in 2006. RSVPs are required by today to Margaret at 566- 4217.
The annual Ho Ho Home Economics Auction is Nov. 26 at Central Queens United Church, Hunter River, with viewing at 7 p. m. and bidding beginning at 7: 30 p. m. Erskine Smith will be the auctioneer for the association’s major fundraiser for the year.
