Local student to visit Ottawa

-

A student at the Studio 9 School for the Arts will be making his second trip to Eastern Canada to participate in a national conference. First, Corbin Carpenter had his art selected from 11,000 others across the country to get to a Canada 150 and Me Regional Youth Conference in Montreal in April. Now he’s been selected to go to Ottawa for the National Youth Conference on June 26 and will be there for 10 days, including Canada Day. He impressed organizers with his performance at the April conference in Montreal.

The national forum will start with presentations reporting on the highlights from the four regional Canada 150 & Me Youth Forums. Invited guests from Canada’s government, business and community leadership will speak in response to the youth reports.

Early this year, Carpenter was encouraged by his home room teacher to submit a piece of art to Exchanges Canada for a place at Canada 150 and Me. His artwork, entitled Change to Opportunity, expressed a positive message about the opportunity to make a better world.

Carpenter is in Grade 11 at Studio9 and is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast, artist and photographer. Wall Street Journal’s weekly best-selling list
